Established in 1982, the Friends of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library. Our mission is to support the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library as a vocal advocate before elected officials, community leaders and citizens at large and to raise funds to help achieve a level of excellence.
Over the years the Friends have provided funds to:
- enhance the Library’s summer reading program for school-age children
- enlarge the Library’s books on tape and classical music collection
- sponsor the Library’s award-winning Novello Festival of Reading
- support critical areas of need such as new book collections
The Friends have applied for and received numerous foundation and corporate grants. Many of these were grants that the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library would not have qualified for on its own. These grants help fund new initiatives and/or support existing ones.
